Commenting Is Simpler Now

For a long time this blog has required people to sign in using a social network ID, be it Facebook, Google, Twitter or another network, before they could comment.

This worked well for a while, but a hole appeared in the scheme when Facebook – which was used by the majority of commenters – changed their API and broke the connection. I understand it is possible again, but I’ve never had the patience to make it work, given they could break it again at any time.

This lead to comments here being a rarity.

So I have scrapped Social Logins, and have gone back to people just giving their name and email address before commenting. No registration required.

Some things to note regarding this:

  • Although WordPress will record your details, the only use that will be made of your address is if you choose the new “notify me of replies” option. We will not be adding your email address to any maillist, nor passing it on to anyone.
  • Real names are not essential, but please use something other than a random collection of letters, and keep it clean.
  • For the moment, at least, all comments are moderated. So if you are here to spam, don’t even bother
