Pastry by Post

As some of you know, I love making stuff in the kitchen, but I always have problems with pastry – apparently I have “warm hands”.

PIDY Pastry CasesSo I think this is a wonderful idea. Ready-baked pastry cases, available by post, in all sorts of varieties – sweet pastry, savoury pastry, choux, tartlets and vol-au-vents.

The cases are pre-cooked blind and then dehydrated, so have a long shelf-life of months. When filled, the cases quickly absorb moisture from the filling, and are ready to eat, or can be reheated.

Party packs have mixed varieties which would be excellent for a small party.

I haven’t yet tried them, but they did come recommended to me. When I do try them out, I will post what I think. By the way, they do meringues and chocolate cases too.

That looks good – although it is possible to cool your hands (I used make bread and pastry) using ‘biofeedback’ techniques.

Good idea if you’re going to be making lots of pastry-case stuff! I have warmish hands too, but I get round it by using a pastry blender (the thing with half a dozen half-moon ‘blades’ on a handle) so I’m not actually handling it, and chilling the dough before rolling it out and cutting it.
