I was very pleasantly surprised by Sherlock, the new contemporary retelling of Sherlock Holmes by Stephen Moffat and Mark Gatiss. Moffat seems to be fond of this kind of thing, having done much the same with Jekyll three years ago.
Benedict Cumberbatch, who memorably played a young Stephen Hawking a few years back, is brilliant in the lead part, while Martin Freeman managed to bring John Watson to life. Tremendous fun from the outset, and strangely true to the spirit of the original, I am looking forward to future episodes.

Ah! *THAT’S* where I know the face from. Thankyou. =:o}
Yes, ’twas thoroughly entertaining and satisfying.
He was the lead in “The Last Enemy”, a series about immigration, surveillance and conspiracy. He played a obsessive-compulsive maths expert who finds himself in the thick of things. Worth tracking down, if you didn’t see it when broadcast.
He was also very good in a supporting role in the film “Starter for 10”.
Totally loved this – I was over with my Dad last Saturday and we watched it together – unfortunately I’m going to miss the other (3 I think) episodes, ‘cos am back in the Land of the Spud and can’t get the BBC online, and me telly’s blown up.
Will write email tomorrow Chris, just home and..erm.. does jetlag happen when you cross the Irish Sea? 😉
