Song Of The SMOF

Words: Chris Malme
To the tune of "Song of Tailkinker To-Ennien" by Christine Krebs

Are you sure the person next to you is who you think they are,
Never trust a person that you met in a convention bar.
A SMOF is on the loose, making lists and noting names,
For subtle delegation is the secret of his fame.

He will buy you a drink and ask you if you want to lend a hand
Never mind about experience, the folk will understand.
He'll put you on a panel, and watch carefully how you fare,
And if you've any talent then next time you get the chair!

He will show you possibilities that you have never seen,
And wouldn't it be fun to run a skiffy magazine?
He knows you won't resist once the suggestion has been made,
His powers of persuasion are the SMOF's tools of the trade!

Very soon you will despair at the committees that you're on,
That's when you find yourself bidding for the next Eastercon,
And though you can't remember whose idea it might have been,
You can be sure the SMOF was there when you picked up the pen!

Are you sure the person next to you is who you think they are,
Never trust a person that you met in a convention bar.
A SMOF is on the loose, making lists and noting names,
For subtle delegation is the secret of his fame.
